A Couple Of Cups Of Coffee With The Cafe Philosopher

From The Resident

Cafe Le Coffee

Philosopher:

THE MAYONNAISE JAR

AND

TWO CUPS OF COFFEE

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember the mayonnaise jar and the 2 cups of coffee.

A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, he wordlessly picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full.

They agreed that it was.

The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full.

They agreed it was.

The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar effectively filling the empty space between the grains of sand.

The students laughed.

"Now," said the professor as the laughter subsided, "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.

The golf balls are the important things---your family, your children, your health, your friends and your favorite passions---and if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house and your car.

The sand is everything else - the small stuff."

"If you put the sand into the jar first," he continued, "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls.

The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you."

"Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your spouse out to dinner. Play another 18.

There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal.

Take care of the golf balls first---the things that really matter.

Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."

One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked.

It just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Considering that you’re here and you read this; and all of the political noise has not driven you out, then I JUST DID.

Come back again, the coffee will be on.

ROCKN' JOE COFFEE HOUSE: CAFE WINNER

Rockn’ Joe Clinches 'Golden Cup of 2006' Rockn’ Joe

NewswireToday - /newswire/ - Cranford, NJ, United States, 12/14/2006 - Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) ranks Rockn’ Joe among the best coffees internationally

The Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) launched the “Golden Cup” award in the 1980s as a way to significantly raise the quality of coffee being sold across America. It was figured that only a few coffeehouses could ever meet such lofty standards in the quality of beans, as well as in the specific protocols to properly grind and brew the coffee.

It is with a tremendous level of satisfaction that Rockn’ Joe Coffeehouse and Bistro today announces it has been named a winner of the “Golden Cup” for 2006. Rockn’ Joe joins a small handful of coffeehouses and restaurants across the country earning the prestigious designation for 2006.“Our signature coffee is a tremendous source of pride for us,” said Kevin Brennan. “This award reinforces that Rockn’ Joe consistently provides one of the best cups of coffee around. Period.”

Rockn’ Joe, with locations in Cranford and Westfield, offers a signature blend of coffee with a smooth taste; a smart alternative to the specialty coffee chains that are known for the powerful, burnt taste of their brews.

Along with its secret bean selection and roasting technique, Rockn’ Joe coffees are made with specially-treated water – a key component for consistently rich, flavorful drip coffee. For the Golden Cup, Rockn’ Joe prepares its coffee according to the SCAA’s precise brewing standards, and had to submit water samples and brewed coffee for laboratory analysis.

SCAA officials analyze the water samples to determine the amount of minerals in the water; they also study the ratio of water to coffee. Only samples found to be within the SCAA’s prescribed limits qualify for the Golden Cup award.

Brennan is proud to note that Rockn’ Joe is committed to using only organic, fair trade coffee, from which farmers receive fair wages and the coffee is grown pesticide-free. “While these coffees cost more, we believe it is a better quality bean that we are proud to purchase,” he said.

“It’s just a better way to do business. Everybody wins.”For more information about Rockn’ Joe – as well as to learn about franchise opportunities - call 1-800-926-4003 or visit their website.

Rockn' Joe, in the picture-perfect downtown of Cranford, may call to mind a loud and smoky hangout with grunge-y slackers drinking coffee for hours, but this little gem outshines most coffeehouses by about a million watts.

The light-filled and airy space does have framed rock posters lining the exposed brick on both sides, but the decor is unexpectedly stylish and understated.

There are sidewalk tables for people-watching, interior cafe seats, and cushy sofas placed just inside the open storefront. Like the best coffeehouses, this is the perfect place to down a quick cup, grab a bite to eat, hang out, converse, or relax for hours.

Unlike many, Rockn' Joe is serious about the quality of its coffee, having been the recipient of the Golden Cup award from the Specialty Coffee Association of America.

Whether you're a morning commuter who needs the "Wide-Eyed," a coffee with a shot of espresso, or a patron with the time to sit back and enjoy a frozen blended latte, your coffee will be superb. -- Naomi Imatome Yun
